Technology partner, Texas Instruments (TI), will kit out classes with T183 graphic calculators, cabling, and liquid crystal display (LCD) screens for use with overhead projectors.  The HHT is compatible with the schools’ computer systems and online resources.

Approximately 30 calculators will be distributed to each class.  HHT teaching resources are accessed via the school server and downloaded onto T183.  The T183 has upgradeable applications, which prevents the calculator becoming obsolete too quickly.  As well as LCD screens, the T183 can be connected to datashows, laptops and keyboards.  The T183 is also Microsoft Word compatible.

For the duration of Project MOTIS, technical support will be provided by TI and project manager, Andrew Tideswell from Wainuiomata High School.

In the short term, participating schools need to purchase T183 compatible Vernier Ph probes which attach to T183 Calculator Based Laboratory (CBL).  The Vernier Ph probe can be used in all science classes and NCEA Chemistry.

Longer term, further attachments such as force meters, accelerometers and photogates, which can be extensively used in maths and sciences may be purchased.
