Kaikohe-based Community Technician, Graham Dalton, recently had a day in front of the cameras being interviewed by reporter Nick Carew for the Maori Television technology programme, Cyberworld.
Nick heard about Graham and the Community Technicians’ project while doing a story on another DigiOps project, and decided Graham was an ideal candidate for the show’s segment highlighting Maori working in technology.
Graham, who’s of Ngapuhi, Ngati Kahu and Ngati Porou descent, was filmed at his host school, Northland College, and asked about life before the project, a typical Comtec work day and how the project could benefit other Maori in a similar situation to him.
Quietly spoken and camera-shy, Graham says he agreed to participate in the interview to not only talk about the project but to extend a message of hope to Maori who find themselves in a similar situation to what he once was.
“My message is that nothing is impossible. When I look back with my background and past, I never thought I’d be doing something like Comtec, but if you really want to do something and you get the opportunity, you’ve got to make the most of it. Comtec is an awesome project and has been an awesome experience for me,” says Graham.
Also interviewed for the show were Northland College principal, Boyce Davey and the Digital Opportunities project director, Garry Falloon.
The interview is for the fourth series of Cyberworld and is due to air in March 2006.
